Delivering a Bespoke Keynote For The Abbey Group
November 7, 2024David was honoured to be asked to craft a bespoke keynote for the Abbey Group’s annual event in Belfast.
As an organisation, the Abbey Group dates back to 1978, when it was first established as the inbound division of Abbey Travel. Since its original formation it has grown and expanded to incorporate three brands, all of which sell the destinations of Ireland and the UK to the worldwide travel trade on a B2B basis.
This particular event was about relaunching their brand new strategy for the future and also giving all of their team a sneak peek of their new rebrand.
They wanted a speaker that could blend the expertise of world-class high performance with an understanding of the idiosyncrasies of the travel and events sector. Given that David flies 20 times a month and works with organisations all across the world, he implicitly understands what a great travel experience is, and the perfect fit for the occasion to deliver a keynote for the Abbey Group.
This event was all about exploring the small changes that they, as an organisation, could make and take every day to make life easier and better for their end travellers. David worked with them to build a bespoke session, written from the ground up, that would provide them with a unique insight on how to deliver a world-class performance in every aspect of their work.
In doing so, David focused on the science-backed techniques that will help them move their results from good to great. During the session he looked specifically at the evidence-based and research-backed communication skills that professionals have that can massively improve the quality of their relationships inside and outside of the organisation – all while making sure that they’re taking care of their own wellbeing in a fast-paced environment.
David’s specific expertise focuses on how to achieve extraordinary performance across cultures internationally and given that the Abbey Group is such an international organisation, this was an amazing opportunity for them to learn from David’s insight from working all across the world.
David explained: “While most of my work is as a keynote speaker, frankly, I consider myself and my business to be intrinsically linked to the travel sector – given that my team and I are constantly flying across the world with somewhere in the region of 20 flights a month. It feels like the travel industry and my keynote speaking business are one and the same.
“The Abbey Group have got an international reputation for always exceeding expectations and for continuing to raise the bar on client experience. So my job was to do the same for them.

He added: “This was truly one of the most memorable events I’ve done this year and I’m very grateful to have been allowed to be a part of it. Big thanks goes to the team at the Abbey Group and I hope we have the chance to work together again at some point in the future.”
