Sarah Eakin, Senior Project Manager at Smarts Communicate said of the stunt; “David is a true professional and excellent at his craft. He has been a pleasure to work with and you know that you are in safe hands when you collaborate with him on a project – he’ll always deliver!”
The gravity-defying stunt was the work of top illusionist and television mentalist David Meade, who had popped into town to lend his support to the launch of the BT Young Scientists and Technology Exhibition.
Students from St Killian’s and Wellington College looked on in wonder as the Banbridge man appeared to be sitting on thin air as he chatted to them.
He is the star of the BBC’s Million Dollar Bet, and after visiting the Young Scientist exhibition in Dublin earlier this year has been inspired to back the competition, praising it as making science and technology more accessible to young people.
Scores of schoolchildren from across Northern Ireland took part in the competition in January, and now more are being encouraged to enter the 2016 event.
The mentalist said the competition was a great way of helping children to imagine the possibilities that could lie ahead.
David said: “As a former teacher myself, I understand the importance of encouraging young people to take what they’re learning in the classroom and use their imagination to turn it into a fantastic idea.
“It is so important that young people create their own journey and future path to success and this world-class exhibition is a great way of helping them to really imagine the possibilities that could lie ahead.
“As I’ve demonstrated today, nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it!”
Secondary level students across Ireland are now being invited to submit entries for next year’s exhibition.
There are four categories – technology, social and behavioural science, biological and ecological science or chemical, physical and mathematical science.
